Masseter Botox in Miami: Jaw Slimming, Clenching Relief, and What It Costs

Press two fingers against the angle of your jaw, just in front of your ear, and clench your back teeth. If a firm knot pops up under your fingertips, you have just met your masseter. It is the strongest muscle in the body for its size, and for a lot of our Miami patients it is quietly working overtime: clenching through traffic on US-1, grinding through the night, bracing through every stressful email.

Masseter Botox relaxes that muscle. It is one of the fastest growing requests we get at AMMA, and it is unusual in that people come in for two completely different reasons. Some want a softer, more oval lower face. Others want the morning jaw ache and tension headaches to stop. The treatment is the same. Here is how it works, what it costs at our Botox pricing, and who it genuinely suits.

Neuromodulator appointments at AMMA take about fifteen minutes. Masseter treatment uses two to three injection points per side.

Signs your masseters are overworked

Most people who clench do not know it. The muscle does its work while you sleep or while you concentrate, and the evidence shows up sideways. Our patients usually recognize themselves in at least two of these:

  • A sore or tired jaw in the morning, or a dull ache after a long day
  • Headaches that sit at the temples, especially on waking
  • Your dentist mentioning worn enamel, chipped edges, or suggesting a night guard
  • A jawline that has gotten squarer or wider over the years, even though your weight has not changed
  • A visible bulge at the jaw angle when you chew or clench
  • Clicking or a tight, locked feeling when you open wide

Genetics play a part. So does chronic gum chewing, high stress, and habits like resting your chin in your hand. Whatever the cause, a masseter that stays contracted for hours a day gradually bulks up, the same way any muscle does when it is trained. That bulk is what changes the shape of the lower face.

How Botox changes the shape of a jaw without touching bone

Botox is a purified neuromodulator. Injected into the belly of the masseter, it blocks the signal that tells the muscle to contract at full force. Chewing still works, normal speech still works, but the reflexive, high-pressure clench loses most of its strength.

Two things happen over the following weeks. First, the clenching eases, which is why many patients notice fewer headaches and less jaw pain within ten to fourteen days. Second, a muscle that is no longer being trained slowly deconditions. Over six to eight weeks the masseter loses volume, and the jaw angle softens. Bone structure is untouched, nothing is removed, and the change is gradual enough that friends tend to say you look rested rather than different.

One honest note on labeling. Botox holds FDA approval for several medical and cosmetic uses, including frown lines and chronic migraine. Masseter treatment for jaw slimming and clenching is a widely practiced off-label use, supported by years of clinical experience and published studies, and it is something our injectors do every week. We will always walk you through that distinction in the room.

What masseter Botox costs at AMMA

We charge $14 per unit for Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify, and that price does not change for the masseter. What changes is the unit count, because the masseter is a large muscle compared to the forehead. Your injector sets the dose based on how much bulk is present and whether the goal is mainly relief or mainly reshaping. These are the ranges we see most often:

Typical scenario Units (both sides) Cost at $14 per unit
Mild bulk, cosmetic softening 40 units $560
Moderate bulk or nightly clenching 50 to 60 units $700 to $840
Strong masseters, heavy grinding, most men 70 to 80 units $980 to $1,120

Unit counts above are typical planning figures, not a quote. Your exact dose is confirmed at your visit. Most people repeat treatment every four to six months at first. After a few rounds the muscle stays smaller for longer, and many patients stretch to twice a year. If you are combining masseter treatment with other areas, our financing options apply to the full visit.

Is it the muscle, the fat, or the skin? Match the treatment to the cause

The most common mistake we see is treating the wrong tissue. A wide lower face can come from muscle, from fat under the chin, from a weak chin and jaw structure, or from skin that has loosened. Each has a different fix.

What you are seeing Likely cause Best fit at AMMA Price
Square, wide jaw angle that flexes when you clench Masseter bulk Masseter Botox $14 per unit
Soft fullness under the chin that does not flex Submental fat Kybella $650 (3 for $1,660)
Jaw looks undefined, chin sits back Structural Jawline filler $700 per syringe
Crepey or sagging skin along the jaw and neck Laxity Everesse neck $850 (2 for $1,360)

Plenty of people have two of these at once. Masseter Botox plus Kybella is a common pairing for someone who clenches and also carries a little fullness under the chin. We wrote a separate guide on telling fat from loose skin under the chin if that sounds like you.

Who should think twice

Masseter Botox is not for everyone, and we would rather tell you no than give you a result you do not like. If your face is already narrow or your cheeks are hollow, shrinking the masseter can read as gaunt. If you have noticeable skin laxity along the jaw, reducing the muscle underneath can make jowls more visible, and that is a tightening conversation first. People with certain neuromuscular conditions, and anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, should hold off.

Side effects are usually mild and temporary: small bruises, tenderness at the injection points, and for the first couple of weeks a feeling that chewing very tough foods takes more effort. A rare, avoidable complication is an uneven smile from product drifting toward the smile muscles, which is exactly why injection depth and placement matter. This is a treatment to have done by someone who treats masseters regularly, not someone who mostly does foreheads. If you are new to neuromodulators altogether, our guides on what Botox feels like and how long it lasts cover the basics.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many units of Botox does masseter treatment take?

Most adults need 20 to 40 units per side, so 40 to 80 units in total. Women with mild bulk sit at the low end, men and heavy grinders at the high end. At AMMA that is $560 to $1,120 per treatment at our $14 per unit price.

How long does masseter Botox last?

The first treatment usually lasts four to six months. Because the muscle deconditions with each round, many patients find later treatments hold longer and settle into a twice a year schedule.

Will masseter Botox change my smile or make it hard to chew?

Normal chewing, talking, and smiling are preserved. Some people notice tough or chewy foods take a bit more effort for the first two weeks. A lopsided smile is rare and comes from product placed too far forward, which is avoided with correct technique.

Does masseter Botox help TMJ pain and teeth grinding?

It reliably reduces clenching force, and most patients report less jaw pain, fewer tension headaches, and less grinding within two weeks. It is not a cure for every jaw joint disorder, so if you have a diagnosed TMJ condition we coordinate with your dentist and you should keep using a night guard if one was prescribed.

When will I see my jaw get slimmer?

Relief comes first, within ten to fourteen days. Visible slimming builds gradually and is usually clear by six to eight weeks, with the fullest effect around three months.

If you have been waking up with a tired jaw, or you keep angling your face in photos to hide a square lower face, come in and let us check the muscle. A consultation at AMMA is quick, and you will leave knowing whether the answer is masseter Botox, something else on our injectables menu, or nothing at all.
