You did the hard part. The scale finally moved, your clothes fit differently, and you feel better than you have in years. Then you catch your reflection in a sleeveless top, or sit down in a swimsuit, and notice something nobody really warned you about: the skin on your arms, stomach, or thighs did not shrink back as fast as the fat underneath it.
Loose skin after weight loss is one of the most common questions we hear from patients on GLP-1 programs right now. A lot of attention has gone to “Ozempic face,” but the body gets the same effect, often more visibly. Here is an honest look at why it happens, what a non-surgical treatment like Everesse can realistically do, and when it makes more sense to talk to a plastic surgeon instead.

Why skin lags behind after GLP-1 weight loss
Skin is an organ that stretches to accommodate what is underneath it. When you carry extra weight for years, the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis adapt to that larger frame. Lose the fat quickly, and the scaffolding does not get the memo right away.
Medications like tirzepatide can produce steady, meaningful weight loss over a few months. That pace is great for your health, but it gives your skin less time to remodel. A few other factors decide how much laxity you end up with:
- How much you lost. Someone who lost 20 pounds and someone who lost 80 pounds are in very different situations.
- Age. Collagen production slows every decade, so skin in your 50s rebounds less than skin in your 30s.
- Sun history. In Miami this one matters. Years of UV exposure break down collagen, especially on the arms, chest, and legs.
- Muscle loss. If you lose muscle along with fat, there is less underneath to fill out the skin, which makes laxity look worse.
- Genetics and smoking. Both affect skin quality more than most people expect.
Mild, moderate, or significant: be honest about where you are
This is the most important part of the conversation, so we will be direct. Non-surgical skin tightening works best for mild to moderate laxity. Think crepey texture on the upper arms, softness around the belly button, or skin above the knees that looks a little deflated. In those cases, rebuilding collagen can make a visible difference.
If you have significant excess skin, meaning skin that folds over, hangs, or causes rashes and irritation, no energy device will remove it. That is a surgical problem, and a good med spa should tell you so. During a consultation we will look at the area with you, pinch test it, and give you a straight answer about whether Everesse is worth your money or whether a surgical opinion is the better next step.
How Everesse (Volnewmer) tightens skin on the body
Everesse is a monopolar radiofrequency treatment. It sends controlled heat into the deeper layers of the skin while the surface stays cool and comfortable. That heat does two things. It causes existing collagen fibers to contract, which gives some early firming, and it signals your skin to produce new collagen over the following months.
Because the result depends on your own collagen production, it builds gradually. Most patients start to see firmer, smoother skin within a few weeks, with improvement continuing for roughly three to six months. There is no downtime. You can go back to work, the gym, or the beach the same day, with some temporary pinkness at most.
On the body, we most often treat:
- Upper arms, the classic spot people notice first after weight loss
- Abdomen, especially loose skin around and below the navel
- Inner and front thighs, including the area just above the knees
- Buttocks, where weight loss can leave skin looking flatter and less lifted
If you are also noticing changes in your face and neck, those can be treated in the same plan. Our guide to Ozempic face and the GLP-1 makeover covers the facial side in detail, and our Everesse overview explains the technology itself.

Timing: when to start treating loose skin
We get asked this constantly, and the answer is “probably later than you think, but sooner than after you are done.” Here is the approach we recommend:
While you are still losing, focus on protecting what you have. Eat enough protein, add strength training two or three times a week, stay hydrated, and wear sunscreen on exposed skin. Preserving muscle is the single best thing you can do for how your body looks at the end. Our article on managing GLP-1 side effects has more on staying well during treatment.
As you approach your goal weight, it is a good time to book a consultation. We can assess the areas that bother you and map out a plan.
Once your weight has been stable for a couple of months, that is usually the sweet spot to begin Everesse on the body. Treating while you are still losing a lot of weight is not harmful, but your skin is a moving target, and you will get more for your investment once things settle.
If you are not on a weight loss program yet and want medical guidance from the start, our medical weight loss program in Miami includes check-ins where we can plan for skin quality along the way.
Setting realistic expectations
We would rather you be pleasantly surprised than disappointed, so a few honest notes. Everesse improves firmness and texture; it does not replace surgery for large amounts of excess skin. Results vary with age, the amount of laxity, and how well your skin produces collagen. And because your body keeps aging, the collagen you build will slowly soften over time, so some patients return for a maintenance session down the road.
What patients tell us most often is that their arms or stomach simply look “tighter and smoother,” enough that they stop thinking about it. For a lot of people after a big weight loss, that is exactly the goal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will loose skin go away on its own after weight loss?
Some skin does retract over the first several months, especially if you are younger and lost a moderate amount of weight. Skin that is still loose after your weight has been stable for a while is unlikely to improve much more without treatment.
How many Everesse sessions do I need for loose skin on my body?
Most patients choose a two-session plan for each body area. Your provider will recommend a number based on how much laxity you have. Results build gradually over about three to six months as new collagen forms.
How much does body skin tightening cost in Miami at AMMA?
Everesse for the arms, abdomen, or thighs is $1,800 per session or $2,880 for two sessions. The buttocks are $2,200 per session or $3,520 for two sessions. Financing is available.
Can Everesse replace a tummy tuck or arm lift?
No. Everesse is designed for mild to moderate laxity. If you have skin that folds or hangs, surgery is the only way to remove it, and we will tell you honestly if that is the case for you.
Is there downtime after Everesse?
There is no downtime. You may see some mild redness that fades within hours, and you can return to normal activities the same day.
